Finally From Florida

I am sure that some of you were wondering “whatever happened to the Parks!!!. Well, as you can see, we left “snowy” Delaware before Christmas, having to literally “chop” the ice away from our trailer wheels so we could make it to North Carolina before dark. We arrived at Chris’s home safe and sound and ready to celebrate the Christmas season with family. We enjoyed a wonderful evening, dined on Frogmore Stew, and treasured each moment with Chris and Gina, Tripp and Ginny, Lizzie, Ella, Tucker, and Peyton. We were also blessed to be with Les’s brother Ron, wife Cynthia, and their son Nick, wife Mary Christine, and precious little baby Caitlyn. As you can see, we had much fun being with little ones on Christmas Day (and “big ones” too!).
From Goldsboro, we drove over to Lewisville, NC (by way of “Lizzard Lick”, NC. Yes, that is REALLY the name of the place. As a matter of fact, my friend, Annette Halberstadt, has an uncle who was Mayor of the place. His name is ‘IZAGOTTCHA! We had a great time with the Lewisville Parks, ie. Ron and Cynthia, visiting Mount Airy, NC. ie. “Mayberry’, including a few miles beyond to Wytheville, VA-home to the most AWESOME fabric shop! (My English teacher would flunk me with this!!!)
Andy Griffith grew up in Mount Airy, and the town became the fictitious “Mayberry” for his show. We had a delightful time enjoying a legendary “Pork Chop” sandwich at Snappy’s Lunch, including a visit from Otis, the “town drunk”. Then we met Floyd at the Barber Shop where Andy had his hair cut as a young boy. Floyd is still there, but I don’t know that you want him to cut your hair at this point!!! We couldn’t leave town until we visited and purchased candy from Opie’s Candy Shop. What a great place-ALL the candy you could ever want, and especially the Old fashioned kind we had as kids. It would be fun to go back to “Mayberry” when it is warmer and we can walk around and visit some more. There is a lot more to see!
Our next stop was to the Clemmons- Parks home-Tripp, Ginny, Lizzie, Ella, and their newest addition, Cookie Dough” Parks. We celebrated New Years Eve and Day, and “we girls” enjoyed lunch and the movie “The Princess and the Frog”. a must see” for ALL. We had such a special time just being together. Cookie Dough is so cute, and a joy to watch. Lizzie and Ella are doing a great job of taking care of him!!!!
We then left for “sunny, warm” Florida, spending one night in Townsend, GA on the way. However, when we drove into the Travelers Rest RV Resort Park, found our new lot, and got out of the car to park the trailer, we were “hit” with the realization that this may be “sunny”, but it was definitely NOT “WARM” Florida!!! I know that you do not “feel our pain”, but I need to tall you anyway! For the first two weeks, we literally froze ourselves!!!! We wore our winter coats, gloves, and ear muffs! My fingers froze up and I could not write this blog!!! It has since warmed up, but today is a tad on the chilly side-50*. Anyway, we are enjoying our lot with sprawling Live Oaks (with lots and lots of falling leaves), nice shade, close to the Hall, wonderful neighbors, etc. Lester is doing the computer thing, and I, my sewing and quilting. We will be visiting the Mulligans in Cape Coral and the McGees in Port Saint Lucie over the next few weeks. I am so excited to be going to the Sewing and Quilting Expo in Tampa on the 18th, and I finished up my “cottage décor” in the trailer. We do miss you ALL but are not interested in returning until you can promise us warm weather-and I mean WARM!!!!
We pray that you are all keeping warm, and staying healthy. We are trying our best, too! God bless ALL of you, and we will be “back on the air” soon.
Blessings,
Mary Ann, Les, and Polly/Paulie!
